THE 5 STEPS TO A SUCCESSFUL MARKETING STRATEGY
When considering the direction for promoting your business and deciding what you wish to convey to your target audience, the first and most important stage in any decision making process is a strong brainstorming session. It’s vital to clearly define who you wish to target and the message you wish to communicate. Don’t limit this stage, involve as many people as possible!
Even for a small business, it’s important to create a brand that is instantly recognisable. Your brand is the first message that your potential customer sees and involves everything from colour choice to typography. The most recognisable brands keep it simple - Less is always more in this case so avoid over complicating the look you opt for. Discover how Jason Pye can transform your brand identity.
Having worked on branding, it’s now time to set targets for your marketing. How do you get your business noticed? Head back to the brain-storm and look at your target audience - Are your customers more receptive to online marketing? Do they pick up local magazines? Are they more likely to interact with your website design if it is optimised for mobile? Define at least five achievable KPI’s.
Having implemented your marketing plan, review the performance of your campaigns every step of the way. Be this through monitoring Google Analytics, asking for feedback on the graphic design of your brand or simply tracking a steady increase in enquiries. Conducting regular reviews is vital - Compare your recent marketing performance vs last year, last month and even last week.
If having reviewed the performance of your marketing or graphic design there are changes that need to be made, it’s vital to action these as early as possible so as to not miss out on opportunities. Making a quick decision can save lots of money. Finally, remember competitors will constantly be marketing against you, so be proactive, not reactive to ensure you secure that customer first!
